GENERAL ADVICE
The Royal Family is held in the highest esteem in Thailand. Negative remarks about the Monarchy are considered offensive and may result in prosecution.
DRINKING WATER
Drink lots of water. Purified, bottled water is available everywhere. Never drink tap water and avoid ice cubes if you have a sensitive stomach.
HEALTH REQUIREMENT
An adequate supply of any essential medication should be brought along, as certain medicines may not be available locally. A spare pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses is also advisable. Extra personal insurance is recommended in case of illness, or situations where medical evacuation by air is required, as Laos hospitals are generally not up to international standards.
ELECTRICITY
221 volts AC, 50 cycles; two-pin plug sockets require an adapter, which is available from housekeeping at most hotels.
GETTING THERE
Myanmar has three international airports: Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw (capital). Mandalay Internation Airport is located 45 minutes outside the city. International and domestic terminal are in the same building. Nay Pyi Taw International Airport is located 25 minutes outside the city. The voltage in Cambodia is 220 V, 50 Hz. Electrical outlets (power sockets) are mainly round two-pin type.
